Keep Texas Beautiful Announces 2017 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards!

We had some truly amazing nominations this year and are proud of all our communities are doing to keep Texas beautiful.

The nearest local winner this year was Longview, so let’s give them a big congratulations!

The Tea Garden made with recycled tires, looking good!

Check out the Tea Garden at the Whitehouse Wildscape prepared by KWB.  It is amazing what can be done with recycled tires and some native plants!  It is located in front of the former recycle center across 346 from the Municipal Court Building.

“CRAPE MURDER”: It’s what we do with those flowering trees during their dormant season that has landscape experts baffled and East Texans re-thinking their late winter “to do” list.

East Texas is known for its beautiful landscape. Just like our loblolly pines stand out in the winter, our vibrant crape myrtles are the star of summer.

February 2017 Business Hot Spot was awarded to “Mom’s Place”!

The February 2017 Business Hot Spot was awarded to “Mom’s Place”, a consignment store with vintage decor. Pictured is Shannon Toney, owner, with Daisy the store mascot, a pot belly pig. Making the award for KWB are Hazel Bateman and Dorothy LaFlure.

Boy Scout Troop 359 helps with the Adopt a Highway Program!

Boy Scout Troop 359 helped with the Adopt a Highway Program Saturday.They had 8 boys and 3 leaders and collected 20 bags of trash including large items like a car bumper! They helped their Troop Sponsor, Whitehouse United Methodist Church, police it’s 2 mile stretch of 346 that is part of the TXDOT Adopt a Hwy Program and is sponsored locally by KWB. It is amazing and sad how much trash is thrown along our roadways in just a few months since the last cleanup effort. We wish we could say we found no trash! Great Work Scouts! You are learning how to be great citizens!

Working on the Brown Wall and Four Corners!

KWB with the help of First Baptist Youth Group replanted bulbs, weeded and trimmed Latana along the Brown Wall and Four Corners in Whitehouse. KWB President and Master Gardner, Hazel Bateman demonstrated the proper techniques for the youth group before starting. Thank you First Baptist Youth Group for the hard work and learning to be great citizens!

KWB Celebrates Arbor Day 2017!

KWB members celebrate Arbor Day by assisting in the planting of 95 trees at Lindsey Park in Tyler. This Arbor Day celebration was very well attended and was hosted by Tyler City Parks and Keep Tyler Beautiful.
