KWB Outstanding Yard!

Keep Whitehouse Beautiful recently awarded the “Outstanding Yard” to Stephen and Susan Crank of 2005 Silver Cove in the Waterton subdivision.  Their yard was chosen due to the beautiful palm trees, flower beds and other shrubbery making the front lawn just exquisite, according to yard nominators Roth Loper and Juanita Hagan.  The landscaping was installed before the Cranks bought it in 2009, but they have done an excellent job maintaining it, and adding new items like the pebble mulch in the beds, a climbing rosebush over the mailbox and annual pansies in different colors.  Other trees in the yard are a Shumard Oak, and a Southern Wax Myrtle.

The Cranks receive a $25 gift certificate to Senter’s Nursery, the sponsor of the Outstanding Yard program, and a sign for their front yard.  If you know of a yard deserving the title “Outstanding”, please send an email to info@keepwhitehousebeautiful.com

Ruth Loper of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful and Jane Swanson, President of the Whitehouse Extension Education Club award Mitsi Runyan the Keep Whitehouse Beautiful Outstanding Yard for the month of May. Mitsi lives at 375 Royal Circle in the Richland Hills subdivision off Willingham Road.

Mitsi has lived in her house for four years now; when she first moved in, there were only boxwoods across the front. Now her yard boasts of many various kinds of trees, a flagstone walk, back porch and patio in front of her green house, several flower beds with wildflowers, a small pond, bird houses and an herb garden for her rabbit, Shiloh. Her greenhouse holds hundreds of orchids that she grows and enters into local and state competitions. Mitsi is also a very active member in the Orchid Society.

Mitsi loves buying flowers because of the way they look, and is always adding more to her landscaping. Along with the Outstanding Yard sign prominently displayed in her front yard, Mitsi received a $25 gift certificate to Senter’s Nursery on Hagan Road, in Whitehouse.

Bright Spot of the Month – July 2010

Prince of Peace Catholic Church has been awarded the Bright Spot of the Month for July by Keep Whitehouse Beautiful. Their new location on Main Street / FM 346 next to the Whitehouse High School is large enough to enable the church to grow in the Whitehouse, Troup, Bullard, Arp and Flint areas. Now that the church has been built, plans are to build a Family Life Center behind the church which will host events, classrooms and offices. Pictured are some of the folks who have volunteered their time with the beautiful landscaping outside of the church. If you know of a business or organization deserving of the title “Bright Spot of the Month”, send an e-mail to aklein@keepwhitehousebeautiful.com

May Yard of the Month

Angela Klein of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful presents Andrew and Stefanie Albright (pictured with their daughter Claire) of 112 Woodhaven the May Yard of the Month award. Andrew and Stefanie have lived in their home for 5 years and stated the house was previously a rental; when they moved in it was in a rather run-down state and had no landscaping. In those five years they have added a beautiful front porch, a front terrace with beds around the many mature oak trees they have in the front yard – all done with large rocks. Planted in their borders are pink and white begonias, as well as lily of the Nile. In their front terrace they’ve also planted various shrubs, a tulip tree and a redbud tree for additional color in the spring. Come visit their front yard for great landscaping ideas!

In addition to the Yard of the Month sign, Andrew and Stefanie received a $25 gift certificate from Senter’s Nursery on Hagan Rd. in Whitehouse; which is the sponsor for the Keep Whitehouse Beautiful Yard of the Month program. If you know of a yard deserving of the title Yard of the Month, e-mail Klein at aklein@keepwhitehousebeautiful.com.
