Registration is now open for the 2016 Don’t Mess With Texas Trash-Off, scheduled for Saturday, April 9th, hosted by Keep Whitehouse Beautiful. Volunteers are needed from all walks of life; schools, churches, organizations, clubs and residential neighborhoods. The Trash-Off will begin at 8am at Whitehouse City Park, where teams and volunteers will check in, pick up their t-shirts and a snack, then then head out to an assigned roadway to pick up trash. This event is part of a larger event across the nation as cities large and small make a statement about trash and litter. As Beverly Casey, President of Keep Whitehouse Beautiful states, “Last year we had a huge turnout and we are expecting the same this year from our community. These volunteers make all the difference in the world. It’s not only the fact that they are picking up litter that day. They’re also making everyone who is driving by aware of litter. Trash doesn’t just ‘go away.’ Someone has to pick it up–so don’t throw it out in the first place.”
Volunteers should come prepared to pick up trash, and be wearing long pants, closed-toe shoes, bring gloves and hats, sunscreen and bug repellent. Trash bags are provided, and instructions will be given as to what to do once the bags are full. Hot pizza will be ready for the volunteers as they come back to the park with their trash bags and reporting sheets.
To register a team or just yourself, please send an email to email@example.com and let us know your name, organization/school/church and the number of people attending.
